Okay, so my confidence was hit when I went back to college and our drawing skills were refound through drawing a natural enemy – wasps. But as only a week has passed, I have realised that 6 weeks+ of not a lot of drawing may have been the issue. And yet now, with only 5 days back in the saddle, my skills – if I do say so myself – have come along way…
First there was a gold card print- cut, peeled, inked and pressed onto yellow (obviously seen better with a better photo) fabric…
And then there was a sustained drawing – which, if I do say so myself – is pretty impressive due to my previous drawing. I am aware this needs a few final touches but I didn’t have a rubber! And that considered – ive done pretty well…
So, in all, this project is getting better (I begrudgingly say) so hopefully they’ll be a good portfolio on its way!

Wasps... Uh oh!
Today was my first day back to college for my second year. New year means – new project! This project is called The Wasp Project. My initial thought on this project was not one of excitement at all. It just did not appeal. When we were introduced to the project my thoughts were correct – it just did not appeal! I’m hoping that it will get better but for now, the concentrated drawing on an image which is HIGHLY difficult at such a tiny size – just does not appeal!
Not only that, but the thought of a REAL wasp next to me is slightly freaking me out! Yes, I know it’s dead, but still, they’re evil!
This is the first of my sketches of the wasps! Not one of my best pieces by far, but I’m proud enough |
Why hello there...
So I’ve joined the world of blogging. It’s always interested me since starting college last year and seeing other people and relatives using them as really spurred me on to create one myself. Not forgetting the fact that universities supposedly LOVE it. So I’ll let you all know a little more about me. My name’s Rachel and I live in Basingstoke, Hampshire, UK. Currently in my second year at Alton College, I am 17 years young and studying a Btec in Art and Design. This year I will be specialising this into fashion. Because fashion and textiles is a true passion to me. Growing up with a wonderful grandmother showing me various techniques and interesting creations she has to my main inspiration. Although her house is bursting to the seams with fabric, dyes, threads and sewing machines, the atmosphere is busting with the creativity and inspiration from the business lady with a huge heart. She’s also an avid blogger – so I hope your checking this out Grandma!
I hope to add to this blog regularly so people can find out more about my life, my inspirations and my loopy brain and what it has to offer!
